Entry Examinations and Requirements

Applicants meeting the following eligibility criteria can take part in the competition:

  1. Students in the final year of secondary education institutions;
  2. Students in the final year of technical, vocational, post-secondary and higher education institutions;
  3.  Graduates from secondary, post-secondary or higher education institutions.

The selection process consists of the following stages:

  1. Stage I – APTIS;
  2. Stage II – NUFYP Entrance Test;
  3. Stage III – IELTS;
  4. Stage IV – consideration of Applicants’ files.

 

Applicants who failed to meet minimum score are not progressed to the next stages.

  1. APTIS – general English language assessment.
  • Assesses Reading, Grammar and Vocabulary skills
  • Number of questions - 75
  • Duration of the test - 55 minutes
  • Question type - multiple-choice questions
  • Minimum passing score - 37.5
  • Test result is available in 7 days

Applicants who provide a copy of TOEFL or IELTS certificate before the de deadline with a minimum  IELTS overall score of 6.0 (or equivalent in TOEFL) are exempted from taking the APTIS test.

  1. NUFYP Entrance Test – test that evaluates academic training in core subjects for studying at the University.

Depending on chosen NU School, the NUFYP Entrance Test is held in next subject sections:

Mathematics and Physics - School of Engineering, School of Mining and Geosciences;

Mathematics and Physics or Mathematics and Chemistry/Biology - School of Science and Technology;

Mathematics and Thinking Skills - School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

  • Number of questions - 60
  • Test duration - 120 minutes
  • Question type - multiple-choice questions
  • Minimum passing score – 120 in total for 2 subjects, while passing level for each of the subjects shall not be less than 50. Thus, 50 + 70 = 120 – is a minimum passing score.
  • Test result is available in 3 weeks
  1. IELTS – an international standardized academic English proficiency test.
  • Assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking skills
  • Test duration - 2 hours and 54 minutes
  • Test format – written and oral parts
  • Minimum passing scores depend on chosen NU School: overall score of 6.0 with no score below 5.0 in each subsection - School of Engineering, School of Mining and Geosciences, School of Science and Technology; overall score of 6.0 with no score below 6.0 in each subsection - School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Test result is available in 14 days

IELTS is conducted by NU within the Stage III of the selection process.

Number of tasks and duration of tests are subject for change by test administrators.

Information about access to entry examinations is placed in Applicant’s Personal account.

Applicants are informed about examination date and venue, as well as required documents and Rules of conduct during the examination via email one week prior to the exam.

There is no appeal procedure available.

Entry examinations for NUFYP applicants are free of charge.
